Large, Accredited CME Program

A large pharmaceutical company presented us with a challenge: To design and create a cross-Canada continuing medical education program about systolic hypertension for specialists (primarily cardiologists and general internists) and family practitioners. The three-hour program required a complete kit that local physicians could deliver in their own communities. The program needed to include learning objectives, pre- and post-tests, a plenary session, case studies, workbooks, PowerPoint slides and speakers’ notes, and an evaluation. All material had to be accredited. This huge project meant drawing on our large team of medical, education and marketing writers, as well as editors, project managers, translators and proofreaders — all within a tight timeframe.

Working as a comprehensive team, we:

• Participated in and helped direct an advisory board meeting of key opinion
   leaders from across Canada
• Helped determine and design the editorial direction
• Worked hand in hand with members of the advisory board to create content for
   the plenary session and case studies
• Created PowerPoint slides and speakers’ notes
• Coordinated the approval process
• Transcribed all meeting tapes
• Translated all content into French
• Proofread all documents in French and English
• Worked closely with the designer to implement content

The result? This program was rolled out across Canada with great results. According to the evaluations, participants felt that the program offered excellent education in a difficult therapeutic area. A follow-up program about Drug Interactions has since been created.
